Angel Food Ministries

Published by turissac

Basic info about the program:

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The signature Angel Food box is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.

Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. Angel Food Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system.

New ways to stay in the loop:

We really want this to be an interactive and fun program for everyone and we want as many people involved as possible. We have just set up a couple of fun new ways to help promote our Angel Food Ministry at Robinson. Check in with these sites at any time to get the latest updates, see pictures, give feedback, and most of all, share with your friends. This program thrives on word of mouth and each person that gets involved, whether it be taking advantage of the low cost of food, or volunteering with us on a monthly basis, does a tremendous amount for our congregation and all the people involved. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing smiling faces every month and hearing all the people tell us how Angel Food has made a difference in their lives.

Distribution:

Angel Food is distributed right at Robinson in Fellowship Hall. For those not familiar with the church, head in the center doors and head down the staircase to the right. Distribution normally occurs on the third Saturday of each month. Occasionally, the date of distribution will be changed (usually due to holidays), but we will let you know if that is the case. Also, we always have a few volunteers who will be happy to help you carry your order to your vehicle.

Distribution time is from 9am – 11am. The sooner you can arrive and pick up your food, the better, as some of the food is frozen and begins to thaw as soon as it leaves the truck. Also, bring a box to pick up your order if you can. We usually have a couple extra but they go pretty quickly. Containers that work the best are boxes from cases of paper, laundry baskets, and the like. Anything sturdy that can handle about 4 full bags of groceries will do the trick!

Due to limited freezer/refrigerator space, any orders that are not picked up by 11am get donated to local charities. If for any reason you cannot make it to the pick up on time, give Jaime a call at 315-491-0380 before distribution ends so that we can make possible arrangements.

Volunteering:

If you are able to help out with Angel Food Ministries, we would love to have you participate. Volunteers need not be able-bodied, as we have plenty of various jobs for everyone to do. If you are interested in lending us a helping hand, reply to this e-mail and let us know, or give a call to the office at 315-468-2509. Some of the duties that we will be needing filled are: drivers with larger vehicles for transporting the food, people to carry in and bag the food on its arrival, check in and check out personnel, people to carry the food out to the vehicles, as well as a variety of other jobs.
